PhD Students and Research Fellows

Hello!! I am Thanuja. I joined Bio-INvENT Lab as a PhD student in June 2016. I have an MTech in Nanotechnology from SRM University, Chennai and BE Chemical Engineering from Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur. My doctoral research is focused on development and characterization of natural and synthetic nanovesicles for therapeutic and biosensing applications. I am working on developing mesenchymal stem cell-derived nanovesicles for targeted radiotherapy and nanovesicle-cloaked nanoparticles for targeted chemotherapy for cancer. I am also developing synthetic liposomal nanoOsmoSensors for in-situ and local diagnosis of dry eye disease.

I also work on (i) development of ocular nanosensors for diagnosing pO2 at the ocular surface using custom-built spot flourometer; (ii) nanoparticle-based prophylactic drug delivery for corneal endothelium to enhance the success of corneal transplantation. I am interested in studying nanoparticle-cell interaction and targeted drug delivery. In 2019, I received Young Investigator Award (Merit Prize) at the International Conference on Biomedical Engineering, Singapore for my research on contact lens based pO2 sensing. I am the project leader of our lab team which won India Innovation Growth Program University Challenge Award 2019 (Rs. 10 lacs grant) from DST-Lockheed Martin-Tata Trusts. In future, I wish to pursue my research on 3D bioprinting of scaffolds for tissue engineering and nanoparticle-based drug delivery.

Hi!! I am Anupama, and I have an MSc in Biochemistry from Kuvempu University, Karnataka. I am also a Faculty in the Department of Biotechnology, SIT, Tumakuru. Currently, I am pursuing PhD in Bio-INvENT Lab.


My PhD thesis is towards understanding the pathophysiology of Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy (FECD), which is a slow progressive disorder of the corneal endothelial layer leading to the loss of corneal transparency. Oxidative stress is one of the major hallmarks of FECD. Oxidative stress induces disruption of structural integrity of the barrier (Perijunctional actomyosin ring). My focus is to understand the role of the major Redox sensitive signalling pathway i.e. p38 MAPK, its downstream target microtubule associated protein 4 (MAP4), and antioxidant genes. These findings will help identify molecular targets to overcome PAMR dysfunction due to oxidative stress in FECD.

I am the recipient of the prestigious ARVO Foundation Travel Grant from ARVO, USA to present my research work at the ARVO Annual Meeting 2021.

Chandan Vasudev S: Hi!! Research field has been my first ambition, so I joined chemical engineering at SIT. Bio-INvENT Lab provided me the best platform to work towards my goal. Now it's been 2 years and I have learnt many things related to research. I have gained experience in the synthesis of nanomaterials and the usage of nanocarries in medical field as a solution. I have won first prize in oral presentation at IIT Madras (Chemplus 2020). I enjoy watching movies and biking.


Keerthana G S: Hello!! To see myself as a researcher in the future, I joined Bio-INvENT Lab in my first year of BE Chemical Engineering. I have been lucky enough to get continuously guided by Dr. Sudhir and Ms. Thanuja. I have won first prize at the MHRD-IIC Business Plan presentation. Currently, I am writing a protocol paper along with my team mates. Along with research, I am a bibliophile, trained in bharathanatyam and love to play badminton.


Shreyas KV: I am a BE Chemical Engineering UG student, and I always love to explore new things. Hence, I joined Bio-INvENT Lab in 2018. I am happy to be a part of the lab and received tremendous guidance from Dr. Sudhir, Ms. Thanuja and Mr. Manjunath. I have received second place in Chemplus poster presentation held at IIT Madras. Along with this research passion I also practice wild life photography.

Selel Jain: I am a BE Chemical Engineering UG student. I joined the lab in 2019 for enhancing research and my analytical skills. I have a keen interest in simulation and nanomedicine to enhance the quality and efficiency of the current medication available. I am an inquisitive person who like to read and explore, traveling and trying new cuisine, financial journal and stock market.


Divyasree Dinesh: I am a BE Biotechnology student at SIT. I joined the lab at the start of August 2019, as a project student. Being a part of Bio-INvENT Lab, has given me a lot of opportunities to learn and understand new innovations in science, and has put me on the platform to showcase my talents in some of the prestigious conferences like Bengaluru India Nano 2020, Bioengineering Conference at NIT-R 2020. Born in Bangalore, my other interests are cooking and singing.


Shubham Shastri: Being a BE Biotech student, I have joined the lab in September 2020 and have been working with ‘Sudhir sir’ as a project student, I have also been studying about various strategies to enhance nanoparticle uptake in endothelial cells and have some basic knowledge about molecular docking and simulations. It’s amazing to have such a hardworking and dedicated team, and I am very happy to be the part of this team. My hobbies are dancing and reading novels.

We are Team CLeONs or Contact Lens-based Oxygen Nanosensors. We joined Bio-INvENT as undergraduate research interns in the summer of 2018. Since then, we are working on developing contact lens-coated oxygen sensors for pO2 sensing in the tear film. We are also the winners of the India Innovation Growth Programme 2.0 University Challenge Award 2019 for our innovation.

Sachin Moger: Hi!!, I am final year BE Chemical Engineering student. I joined Bio-INvENT lab in the summer of 2018 since my interests were inclined towards chemistry and nanotechnology. I got an excellent platform to realize my potential in providing solutions to real world problems after becoming a part of the lab. I enjoy playing online games, drawing and reading books.


Rohan Shet: Being a BE Chemical Engineering student at SIT, exploring the world of science and engineering has always been one of my favourites. Bio-INvENT Lab provided me a great opportunity to learn and follow my passion. I joined the lab in the summer of 2018. Since then, I have worked in the field of Nanotechnology, Biosensing and Simulation. Apart from my research activities, I also enjoy reading books, playing chess and badminton.

We are Team iONs (Intracellular Oxygen Nanosensors)!! Currently studying BE Chemical Engineering at SIT Tumkur. We joined Bio-INvENT in the summer of 2018 as undergraduate research interns. Mahima N Bontadka: Hello there! My interest lies in the field of engineering nanomaterials and drug delivery. Site-specific drug delivery grabs my attention due to the challenge that therapeutics need to travel across various biological barriers. I’m interested in learning how chemical engineering and nanotechnology can be applied in this particular field. I am the recipient of MITACS Globalink Research Internship 2021. In addition to research, I enjoy street food and singing Indian classical music


Prajna A: Hi!! I am from Kerala. My area of interest is the study of natural products derived from plants for the treatment of diseases. Plant-derived drugs were discovered from the study of therapeutic, traditional cures and especially the folk knowledge of indigenous people. Some of these claims and belief of people are irreplaceable, despite the recent advancement in science and technology. I would like to explore this area using my chemical engineering skills which can bring an improvement in the health sector. Beyond research, I enjoy learning classical dance, music, arts.


We are Team FECD!! Currently studying BE Biotechnology (VII Sem) at SIT, Tumkur. We joined Bio-INvENT Lab in the summer of 2019, as undergraduate research interns. Since then, we are working on understanding the effects of oxidative stress on Fuch’s endothelial corneal dystrophy, a progressive degenerative disease of the eye.

Anjana Rammohan: I have interest in cell culture technologies and hence doing my mini/major project at Bio-INvENT Lab. I am also the recipient of 2019 IASc summer research fellowship (worked at NIRHH, Mumbai) and recently won third prize in the Bioengineering Conference at NIT Rourkela. Apart from this, my interest lies in painting, stitching and listening to music. I am also an avid reader of classic English Literature.


Apeksha Devadiga: Hi!! I have had the great fortune to carry out my mini/major project in Bio-INvENT Lab and be part of the Bio-INvENT family. The environment of the lab is a great stimulant to cultivate research and problem solving abilities. I also got the opportunity to participate and win third prize in Bioengineering Conference at NIT Rourkela. I intend to gain technical knowledge in the field of Biotechnology and apply the same to fulfil unmet needs in the area of Biomedicine. Apart from these, I am a movie enthusiast and I have a keen interest in western dance.

Pavan Kumar MA : I did my internship on Molecular Docking and Dynamics where I learnt about protein-ligand interaction, and molecular structure. I joined Bio-INvENT Lab to improve skills in my interested area which would help for further studies. Other than research, I am also interested to explore new places and love to taste authentic sea food.


Manoj KP: I have interned in molecular docking and dynamics. It helped me learn how to design drugs. I even got a chance to exhibit a hand model of hydroponics in an agricultural exhibition. Now, I have joined Bio-INvENT Lab. Genomics is also one of my interests. I love playing Chess.

We are Team LinOS!!, Currently studying BE Chemical Engineering at SIT Tumkur. We joined Bio-INvENT lab as undergraduate research interns in 2017. Since then, we are working on Liposomal nano Osmosensors for rapid in-situ accurate diagnosis of dry eye disease. This idea got the Most Innovative Model prize at IIT Bombay Ideation Challenge (2019). We were also the finalists (among Top 60 innovations from 3000 applications) at the National Bio Entrepreneurship Competition (NBEC) 2019.

Tejaswini A Deshpande: I am a recipient of the prestigious Indian Academies Summer Research Fellowhip 2019. As the part of the fellowship, I have worked on synthesis of Janus NPs for the reduction reaction of p-nitrophenol to p-aminophenol using cellulose as the support at NIT Warangal. Apart from research, I take pleasure in cooking and street photography.

Pooja Bhat: I was the finalist at NBEC-2019 in Bangalore, a national level bio entrepreneurship event. Having interest in research, I am also a junior graduated classical vocal singer and interested in acting.

Soundarya N: I am a highly motivated student with an extensive background in engineering principles. My adaptive and collaborative skills and innovativeness help me deal with ambiguous and dynamic situations. I have authored technical manuscripts, reports and presented the project plan to technical and non-technical audiences. I was the finalist at NBEC-2019 in Bangalore, a national level bio entrepreneurship event. My hobbies include acting, playing throw ball and gardening.

Subramanya Navada KR:Hi!!, I am BE Telecommunications Engineering student. Research, cracking solutions for future upgrades are my passion, my imagination ignites while tackling difficulties. Bio-INvENT Lab allowed me to explore this passion with more enthusiasm. I’m working on the Electronics part of the BlinC project, which helped me analyze and work on the piezoelectric materials and advanced drug delivery mechanisms. Mohith S: Hello!!, I am pursing my BE in Electrical Engineering at SIT. I always wanted to pursue research, and I got an opportunity to do so working in the Bio-INvENT Lab. Being part of it helped me know more about how research work goes with lots of study and experimentation. Currently, I’m working on the Electronics part of the BlinC project. This has helped me read and work on the piezoelectric materials and on electronic circuits. Apart from studies and research, I’m interested in learning new skills and updating myself on Technical and Space Science related topics regularly.

We are Team NanoPlant Defense!! Currently studying BE Chemical Engineering (III Semester) at SIT Tumkur. We joined Bio-INvENT in the summer of 2020 as undergraduate research interns. Since then, we are working on developing nanogels for activating plant defense mechanisms against diseases. This project is in collaboration with DBT-National Institute of Plant Genome Research, New Delhi.

Hruthi M N: Hello! I’m Hruthi (BE Biotechnology student). I joined Bio-INvENT lab in my second year as I’m interested in research. I heard about the successful research projects in this lab. So, I’m excited to work under the guidance of Sudhir Sir. I’m interested in agricultural research and use biotechnology concepts to solve unmet needs in agriculture.
